Just Found Out Today (tell me it gets better) 2010/07/28 03:48 Karma: 0
I am so glad I found this website. We just found out today that my 9 month old daughter needs glasses. I am feeling sad and confused and generally worried that she will feel "different" as she gets older. I know I'll get used to the idea and I've already started looking around for cute and stylish frames, it's just hard news to hear.

I'm curious how others have dealt with this, and I'm just looking for some faith that this will feel pretty insignificant soon.

Thanks for listening....

Hi. Likewise, we only found out yesterday that our beautiful 11 month old baby girl needs glasses too. I am feeling all the emotions that you listed above. Sad, worried that she will struggle with the transition and worried she will be given a hard time by other kids as she gets older. We have ordered some frames so we can have a look at them on Friday and start the process. All the best for your baby too...

Hi, I am new on here too. My 4 month old has just been pescribed glasses also. We went shopping for them yesterday and found it incredibly hard to find people who stock them where I live. I have 2 pairs on order, one trendy pair (for my sake) and the recommended rubbery ones that are comfy. I am curious to know what the difference in strengths mean though. He has been pescribed 3 in one eye and 2.5 in the other. I would love to know what he is seeing as it has delayed his visual development.

It gets better I promise!! My son has been wearing glasses since he was a month old! He was born with a cataract, developed nystagmus, has a form of albinoism. We were told when he was first diagnosed with all this hoopla, that he may be blind. Now hes a VERY active toddler, and sees great! I understand completly the challenges and emoitions your going through, but i want to assure you...IT WILL GET BETTER.

Hi, i relate to you as well. My daughter Janine has now been wearing her glasses for exactly 20 days. She is 12 months old. My husband and i found it really hard to begin with, we are getting used the whole thing. Janine has a turned eye, strabismus. I'm glad i picked it up early. I am really struggling keeping her glasses on. If it is not her taking them off, it's her twin brother pulling them off her face. Going out with her to social gatherings or even the shops is good. I found that it built my strength. You could see all the stares and you get all the questions. To be honest that worked for me, yet challenging. Look at the bright side, at least we have picked it up from now. Their are llots of people that don't notice things in their children until it's too late. Keep strong, your daughter needs you to be strong. You don't want her to feeel any different to others as she gets older. Have faith. Take care and feel free to ask anything you want.
