Just a little tip for keeping the glasses on your babies=) try to put them on when your baby is asleep, that way they are just there when they wake up. Also put a little hat on baby so they get used to feeling something on their head.
When my son first got his glasses he was too little to really fuss with them, but as he got a little older and the RX woud have to be changed he would fight them, or reject them all together. He will be 2 in about 3 weeks, and how he wears them like a pro. It was very much a struggle at first, ( at his new RX) He would just take them off or bite the nose pads off, and he loved to throw them at me... If he wears them for a little while at a time, your baby will notice he seees much better with them on, and then the story will change. Mine refuses to take them off unless its bed time, or bath time, so try to be patient, and good luck.

I was right where y'all were a short 8 months ago. I found out our daughter needed glasses when she was 13 months old because she is very farsighted. We used to joke about how great her vision must be because she would always find the tiniest pieces of fuzz (which would of course immediately go in her mouth). My husband and I both have great vision and she was born 3 days late, so it can definitely not be blamed on being premature for her. My mom is farsighted, though.
When I first found out she needed glasses I was heart broken. We ran out of the dr office after getting the rx not able to ask any questions because I thought I was going to throw up. I actually locked myself in my bedroom for a night crying. so dramatic. But it has really been a great experience for us. Millie has so much personality and I feel the glasses give her even more. I get so many great compliments and she gets so many smiles! There are the occasional odd or unnecessary remarks, but I have learned to stop them in their tracks pretty quickly and put a positive spin on it. I want her to know that she is different because of her glasses at this age, but I also want for her to know her difference is part of what makes her wonderful and special!
There have been some bumps and bruises due to the glasses along the way, but they (as well as the other unrelated ones) have faded quickly. We have the rectangular Mira-flex frames and they have made it through everything from being rolled over by the stroller to being stepped on/thrown off. I was considering buying a second pair, but since these have been so durable I haven't had to. I only wish I had purchased the transition lenses because we spend a lot of time outside in the sun. I would also recommend the "featherweight" lenses.
Hope this helps!

Hi Milliesmom!
I am the one that started this topic and I am far from sad now. Zachary is doing soo well with his glasses now and they really just suit his personality and make him even more precious! We have received nothing but positive remarks and feedback from people. I am happy to say most of my fears were unfounded. Yes, wearing glasses and having poor eyesight is not ideal but it is minor compared to so many other problems they could have!

Milliesmom, I love your attitude, sounds like you are making your daughter realize she is special and the glasses just make her even more so.

I was just like you when I first found out...just devastated and confused and sad. Looking back now I see I was over-reacting in a big way. It is just so hard to be told your child is not perfect in every way. (they still are, even with glasses, though!)

I would love to see pics of Millie in her glasses if you can! How old is she now? Zac is now 16 months...

We have the Flex On glasses and they have been so great! Super durable. They have been through sooo much already! I was like you, thinking I really do not need a spare pair after all. I went to Eyemasters, though last week because Zac took off the nose pads (again) so I needed to get some put on. They had some flex glassed on close out and I could not pass it up...got TWO pairs for 66.00! Including lenses! I did not get the upgraded lenses since these are spares. I thought that deal was too good to pass up. Going to pick them up tomorrow...

Hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Melissa

I attached a pic of Millie at about 16 months. She is almost 21 months now! I am so glad you are also having a positive experience! I also somehow found this site right after we found out she was farsighted. It was so reassuring to hear the personal accounts of parents who had already gotten past the initial heartbreak - reading them helped me realize that it really will not limit her at all in life. Youre right - they are still perfect! It is so great that we can support each other through this website! It is so hard to find good/trustworthy resources online about this topic.

Hope you have a great holiday weekend!
