Oh my goodness! They do say that there is a strong genetic component, and I believe siblings have a 1 in 4 chance of needing glasses at an early age(I'd have to check the sources to be sure).

My 4 and 2 year olds (the site's faces) both needed glasses at 3 and 6 months respectively (though both were diagnosed at 3 months).

My oldest was 2 months premature, and we attributed his vision problems to the prematurity. We had our youngest checked as a precaution, and - with his diagnosis - realized it was genetics. Both his Mom and I wear/wore glasses (though I was 20/15 until I was 23 and have since been PRK'd by Uncle Sam, and am 20/15 again!), so there was a good chance.

They've both done extremely well with there glasses, and will ask for them if they're not wearing them. They are both in the same frames from when they first got them, though their script's been updated every year, and lenses swapped out for new as needed (scratches).
