how long has your daughter been in glasses, and how many times has her prescription changed? we've been in glasses for almost 6 months and been through one eye surgery and her prescription has not ever changed. we are not due to go back to the eye doctor until december, unless of course a problem arises. the doctor told us at our last visit that he only does the vision testing once a year, unless he suspects or we suspect that here need for the glasses has changed????

My daughter is 21 months and has had glasses for just over 6 months. Her doctor updated her prescription a couple weeks after she first got glasses, but I don't think that was because her prescription changed, but rather because she wanted to tweak the prescription to get it more accurate - our doctor said that figuring out prescriptions at that age was a matter of art as much as science. Then a few months later I noticed that her eyes were turning in a bit again, and kind of kept an eye on things until our 6 month appt. a couple of weeks ago. She checked her vision again at that point, and determined that her prescription had gone up.
I am not an ophthalmologist, or optometrist, or child development expert, but it seems to me that our kids are growing and changing so very much in these early years that you'd kind of expect their prescriptions to change relatively often. I don't think it is good or bad that her prescription hasn't changed, but I don't think it should be surprising that it might. I think Zoe's eye doctor wants to see her every 4 months or so to re-evaluate her vision, though maybe at some point that will slow down.
I think if you feel like you're noticing that your daughter isn't seeing right, you should ask for an appointment to check for sure. Maybe get a second opinion? For us, it was pretty obvious that her eyes were turning in again when she focused up close. I will mention that on my blog, I had written that I was concerned about Zoe's prescription changing, and a Professor of Pediatrics/Binocular Vision commented on that post saying that it was not a surprise, and in fact, actually a good thing that her prescription changed (http://toddlerglasses.wordpress.com/2008/07/02/putting-the-library-degree-to-good-use/#comments).

what state do you live in we live in tennessee and have a wonderful doctor at vanderbilt childrens hospital. there is no doubt that sadie sees wonderfully with her glasses on. when we put them on her for the first time she instantly started smiling. she has never really bothered them and does not mind at all that they are on her. thanks again

does your daughters eye or eyes still turn in without the glasses on? sadie's right eye still turns in without the glasses. the dr said that it is because she is farsighted and that she has to strain without the glasses on so that she can see and that her right eye turns in because it is her dominant eye. her ledt one is straight with or without the glasses. her eyes are straight with the glasses on, before the surgery they were not perfectly straight wven with the glasses on.

Oh yeah, they both turn in quite a bit without her glasses - we've been told the same thing, that she has accomodative strabismus, where she crosses her eyes to try and focus because she's farsighted. I think it's super cute that your daughter started smiling as soon as she got her glasses. Zoe just stared and looked around the store like she was seeing things for the first time, but then she got a little tired of them and would take them off whenever she got bored. It took about 2 weeks before she would leave them alone. When she first got her glasses, her eyes were straight, but then they started turning in again a few months later. We'll see how she does with her new prescription. I think if it doesn't completely straighten her eyes, we may be looking at surgery as well.

so, zoe has not had the surgery yet?? i thought she had. if thats in your future let me know, i can ease your mind about it. (its not bad) Sadie's eyes look so much better since the surgery. they do not turn in as bad. they are now perfectly straight with her glasses on.
