Hi sad Mommy,
I felt the exact same way last week. I feel for you. A couple of weeks ago i got my daughter Janine's eyes checked by a health clinic optometrist because of my suspision of janine having a turned eye (coveregent and both eyes). It was then confirmed by the optometrist that she does have a turned eye and was then referred to a pediatric eye doctor. I went to the doctr last week and was so overwhelmed by all the information given to me at the appointment that i cried. Like you it was all too new to me. I was told that the only treatment for now is glasses. i told the doctor is it normal for my 11 month old to wear glasses, she is so young. Yes apparently 1 in every 20 children have strabismus (correct term for turned eye). But alot miss it when their children are young and then is a bit harder to treat once they are older.
Janine is a twin. Her and her brother were born at 36 weeks just borderline premmy. The first question my doctor asked was whether she was premmy. But the biggest case is inheritance. Could be 1st or 2nd generation. So it is obvious in my situation that it is carried on from my mothers side, because a couple of my cousins have eye problems.
Looking at the bright side (hard to but life goes on and don't want Janine to feel that their is something wrong with her and that she is any different to her brother and older sister), Janine does not have vision problems, the glasses will hopefully help her relax the muscles in her eyes then straighten them up.
So if it means glasses, well bring them on.
Haven't recieved the glasses yet, just a little worried on how she will keep them on.
It feels good to have let it all off my chest.
It is great to have stumbled across this site just a few minutes ago.
Thankyou

Hiya
I had the same thing with my son buddy he has it in both eyes to, i cried my eyes out when i first saw his glasses you really cant see anything through them it made me feel terrible, it was very hard to get him to keep his glasses on, i did get alot of help from a site called frame huggers, dont be put of when you see they make eye patches they also make straps that are hand made to fit your child that attach to the glasses that do make it harder for your little one to pull off, they also make the glasses fit better as some glasses can slip and sit on the nose,i had problems with my little boys glasses not the strap, so sadly i stopped trying so hard to get him to keep them on,dont give up like i did my boys nearly two his eyes didnt get any better so now he needs an op to correct them im eaten with guilt had i tried harder maybe things might be different, my little boys now wearing his glasses with his strap if you have any probs finding frame huggers let me know, or anything else xjan

Thankyou for the encouragement. Like i said before i haven't received the glasses yet but we got them fitted today. I wasn't too happy with them though. They are the ones that curl around the ear. I don't know how Janine is going to leave them on. Anyway, the doctor di tell me not to worry too much about the style for now. She told me to wait and see till Janines second visit to see whether there is progress or not. Well sad to hear about your son. The doctor did say the operation is also a way of treatment. Hope it all goes well for you all. I seemed like such a sook at our first visit. But i have gotten over the emotional part. It is a matter of being strong and hlding it together for Janines sake.

sounds like your in good hands! if you need any tips with keeping the glasses on i have to many to list, buddy also has the glasses that curl around his ears, they seem hard to get on at first abit fiddly but they are easyer to keep on and little ones do get used to them, it wont be easy getting the glasses to stay on but one thing you must rember is make it fun depending on how old your little girl is, get a book out so she can see it, take her outside for her to see the flowers etc, even the tv works i found , but if she starts getting upset dont push her, never make it not fun,i gently got buddy into wearing the glasses so not to upset him to much, buddy went nuts when i first put his glasses on...it took alot of time and trying, if you need any more help or advise or just to talk im here xjan
