Sources for Infant's Glasses
Written by John Fuda

I recently received an email from a new member inquiring where to get frames for his 4-month-old son, as none of the shops in his area carried infant frames. I recommended Solo Bambini to him. Solo Bambini has their own line of children’s frames including Solo Bambini infant and toddler frames in three sizes and Portofino frames for kids and pre-teens. They also distribute Italian-made Como infant and toddler frames in two sizes and French-made Maudal frames for children.

I highly recommend the Como frames, as they are the frames that both my boys wear, appear to be more comfortable than the “hard’ frames designed for older kids, and are extremely durable. My oldest Son, now almost 3, has had the same frames for two and a half years. They’re still as good as new and have held at least a dozen sets of lenses due to replacements for scratched lenses and prescription changes. I do not think any other frames would have lasted as long given the abuse these frames have taken.

If your local optical shop does not carry infant frames, let them know about Solo Bambini, and they can order frames directly from Solo Bambini . If you cannot get your optical shop to do this, your doctor should be able to order a complete set of glasses directly from Solo Bambini for you.

Hi! I am also on the hunt for infant glasses! I have found a few more websites that carry infant sizes that might be helpful to you...
theyedoctor.com
oohlaladeparis.com
childsview.com
and ofcourse
Solobambini.com
I personnally think that we are goin with solo bambini and I am glad to hear that others have found them durable. Here is my question though...when you get new lens, do you have to send the glasses back to California to be fitted in the frames? Or can someone local do that for you? Do you have to order the new lenses from Solo Bambini or can your local optician do that for you?
I think that Solo Bambini has a great selection and are actually cute frames for babies. So I think that I will be ordering from them but I wonder how pricey and how much to budget on for my little ones eyes!Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Our optical shop installs lenses on-site

Natalie,

Every time we've had the lenses changed on our boys' glasses they were done in shop. We call the shop, they order the lenses and 2-5 days later call us back to bring in the frames. Once we arrive with the frames, they cut the the lenses to match and are done within 30-45 minutes. I imagine most shops should work this way, so long as they have in-house fabrication equipment. If your shop exculsively mail orders everything, then it will likely require them to mail the frames as well, which would be bad becuase your child would be without their glasses for several days. I think the ability to fit lenses into frames in-house should therefore be an important criteria for picking an optical shop. Perhaps we should put together a checklist!
